Have you considered the power of invitation?

Have you considered the power of invitation, of how we call and how we respond?

During yoga classes there is often an invitation to bring in an intention for your session. I remember hearing Yoga with Adriene mention this on her YouTube classes and she suggested simple things, like being present, being playful and being honest with where you are at in that moment. (I loved how she said not to push yourself if it was a strain.) My impatience would show up as I would feel a sense of uncertainty brewing, veering on the overwhelm. How interesting to recall this as I now feel more drawn to engaging with the energy around our intentions.

How best to begin with intention setting?

Well, we can start with the setting. The here and now, with body, with mind, with every emotion and distraction. Breath helps me let go of the big questions and settle on the exhale.

What is it that we want and what do we need?

I’ve noticed children are encouraged to ‘use their words’ and to express ‘I feel sad’ ‘I am hungry’ ‘I hurt my knee’. I wonder how many of us can respond honestly and openly to our needs and feelings during the day? If no-one is asking we need not take stock of our desires or our simple needs.

How do we refine our intentions with our goals if we do not value our basic needs?

In this moment I need ease.

This is one of my favourites! There are endless possibilities of how we tune in to what we call in and how best we respond. When I say ‘best’ I suppose I mean truest. If we are feeling resentment, overworked and undervalued it is challenging to elevate our intentions. Honour those emotions. I have been learning to witness emotions like characters, like textures, like machinery, like wolves. Sometimes there is heat involved, sometimes a stirring in the belly.

During my sessions, whether it is through engaging with Breathwork, Reiki or using Intuitive guidance we can build more awareness around the strength and power that lie within. Intention setting can be a practice. It is like an invitation to get a bit closer to where we are orbiting. Are we dwelling on past, eager or stressed about future or are we listening to quiet reminders to be grateful for the day, for the work, for the hunger, for the play.

I am still working on mine. It shows me where fear can lie (false?) and attachment can delude.

I am dressing mine up in an envelope and sealing it with courage and release. I send it out to the ether and wonder who out there is willing to join me and receive.

Sealed with courage and release
